How Much Time Should I Allow to get to the Airport

Posted by admin on January 26, 2012

How much time should I allow at the airport?

This is dependant on the destination and whether it is a scheduled or charter flight.

Most airports recommend:

  • Long haul or charter flight, 2 to 4 hours
  • Scheduled European flights, 2 to 3 hours
  • UK and Eire, 90 mins to 2 hours

Check in as early as possible, at a minimum 45 mins to 1 hour before scheduled departure time.

How much travel time should I allow to get to the airport?

This varies on the time of travel and the state of the M25 and feeder roads, our drivers regularly check for roadworks, delays and incidents and will contact you if we think we need to allow more time.  As a general guide:

  • Tonbridge to Gatwick Airport, 45 minutes to 1 hour
  • Tonbridge to Heathrow Airport, generally 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes.  Tonbridge to Heathrow can take up to 2 hours during the peak hours of 06:30 - 08:30 and 16:00 - 18:00.
  • Tonbridge to Stanstead Airport, 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes

Also allow a few minutes loading time if you have a lot of luggage.

Example Travel Times

From Tonbridge to Gatwick Airport for 08:00 scheduled business flight to Paris, no luggage

  • Airport Arrival time 2 hours before flight = 06:00 hrs
    • Just before rush hour
  • Travel time Tonbridge to Airport, 50 minutes
  • Recommended Taxi booking time 05:00 to 05:10 - 3 hours before flight

From East Peckham to Heathrow Airport 11:00 flight to Sydney with luggage

  • Airport Arrival time 3 hours before flight = 08:00hrs
    • right in the middle of rush hour
  • Travel time East Peckham to Airport, 1 hour 30 minutes Tonbridge to Heathrow, add 10 minutes for East Peckham to Tonbridge = 1 hour 40 minutes
  • Allow luggage load and lock up time, 10 minutes
  • Recommended taxi booking time 06:00 to 06:10 - 5 hours before flight

Apologies to anyone receiving calls supposedly from our new number 0330 088 3652... It isn't us.  The problem has been reported to our IP telephony provider VOIPTalk.org (Telappliant).

We don't dial out using that number at all it is intended purely for incoming airport taxi bookings.

These calls seem to be automated in nature so until VOIPTalk get back to us there is little we can advise except somehow block incomming calls from the number.

Apologies - BobK
